An essential law firm service at just the right time
Bill Kirby has left Axxia to start a company specifically targeted at what is regarded by many at a critical niche in the legal sector.
Law firms now probably face the most intense period of enforced change in their history. The role and use of information technology is no longer a periodic consideration, and system solutions will be needed increasingly at various points on the evolutionary and some say revolutionary scale. The market is seeing an inevitable shift from bespoke individual services through to branded standard packages with business process workflow which can be delivered by a range of traditional and non-traditional suppliers. Lawyers themselves will face considerable uncertainty and discomfort as they move through the stages of client and market driven change as they are challenged by both competitors and clients.
Law firms need to feel confident that the have the strategy, business plan and the right resources to meet the challenges.
Delivery through sophisticated use of Information Technology is clearly the way forward, but the combined impact of changes in compliance and rules, the effects of Clementi, moves to LLP and leverage for profitability will bring about critical demands on lawyers and their support network.
To date, law firms have been much slower than comparative small to medium-sized businesses to adopt technology and while the stated intent is certainly there over the next two years, capability will remain in question unless and until IT and Finance professionals are able to provide proper support to the business.
Much of this may seem inevitable defensive but firms can also decide to be at the forefront of these changes, driving forward and capitalising on the opportunities offered.
